Im using Arch, BTW.

I’m so stranger to operating systems. I’ve used Windows basically all my life, Linux on servers (And on my desktop for a couple months now) And i’ve been using MacOS for work for a couple years now too. I was one of the early adopters of Windows 8 (And I did not hate it!!)
So which one is the best?
NONE OF THEM. THEY ALL SUCK ASS. THERE IS NO “GOOD” OPERATING SYSTEM. WINDOWS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO RUIN, LINUX ON THE DESKTOP IS CONSIDERED SELF-HARM AND MACOS OHHH FINDER FUCK YOU FINDER.
Um. Okay, yeah. Not sure what happened here but I really wanna talk about my experience with Linux these past few months.
I decided to install “EndavourOS” (Arch, BTW) with the XFCE desktop in November 2025. I chose endavour because I had used it in the past (2023?) and I was quite happy with it.
Now, linux is free. Sorta. It won’t cost you any money to install but… You pay with your time. Getting anything set up in a similar way you’re familiar with is going to take you time. I really wanted to be able to browse my google drive locally (Like the Google Drive client for windows/macos) but that client doesn’t natively exist on linux. Gnome (another desktop) does have a online accounts system that lets you mount your google drive, so i installed their online accounts package.
Oh no, Why do i have a second file manager now??
So turns out that this online accounts feature has a dependency on the Gnome File Manager, and thus installed it and now half of my applications open Thunar (the one i already had) and the other half open Whatever The Gnome One Is Called It Just Calls Itself “Files”
this… is just one of the examples where linux stuff doesn’t have that MacOS “It Just Works” thing.
Windows has a lot of “old people who like using technology” features like being able to paste a path into the address bar and it’ll just go there. On MacOS you have to go to “go > Go to folder” and on Thunar (linux).. Uhm.. Well you can do it in the main view but not the open file dialog???
So… Let’s talk a bit about my workflow.
Programs I use that i use (yeaj)
- Adobe Photoshop ( I know, I know)
- Unity
- FL Studio
2 out of 3 of these “function” under linux. Unity runs natively (naively) and FL Studio “”runs”” under Wine. (FL Studio refuses to load many plugins and has a lot of rendering bugs)
Unity has the problem of just not working correctly, there is a official build but it just.. isn’t supported and straight up doesn’t work correctly.
Photoshop, yeah. Okay.
THE SOLUTION
imma just use linux for gaming (or windows, haven’t decided yet but prolly not) and use MacOS for my actual work so yeah time to spend 2.5k on a mac studio yippieeee
macos still sucks though fuck you finder
UPDATE: Back on Windows (sigh)
